Become familiar with problem description and downtime reports;
Learn possible and probable cause;
Understand corrective procedures and solution verification;
Lesson 3: Mechanical Troubleshooting
Understand machine drawings, blueprints and O&M manuals; Identify pump failure problems and solutions;
Identify bearing wear problems;
Understand and maintain planned maintenance records.
Lesson 4: Electrical Troubleshooting
Understand techniques for trouble-shooting electrical circuits;
Understand the four main electrical measurements: Voltage, Current, Resistance, and Continuity;
Understand and follow correct safety procedures for taking measurements of voltage, current, resistance, and continuity in a practical circuit.
Lesson 5 & 6: Mechanical Controls
Explain the benefits of accurate alignment and define the terms used in alignment procedures as well as the typical tools used in basic shaft alignment;
Learn the basic method of shaft alignment and suggested recording procedures;
Understand the basics of thermal growth; be familiar with cam maintenance techniques.
Lesson 7: Principles of Electricity, Electrical Safety & Schematics
Be familiar with simple AC & DC circuits and measure their electrical properties;
Become familiar with common types of electrical conductors, insulation, and protection;
Understand the basic National Electrical Code (NEC) definitions and ability to read electrical schematics;
Become familiar with fuses, circuit breakers, common electrical switches, solenoids and relays.
Lesson 8: AC & DC Equipment & Controls
Understand the operation of the most common input devices: switches, sensors, thermocouples, and transducers;
Become familiar with the operation of AC and DC electrical motors;
