Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) is a Lean Tool that is utilized to reduce time and waste in the changeover of a manufacturing process and can be applied in almost any operation.
Reducing changeover time will increase available production time. In addition to cycle time improvements, SMED can reduce costs and increase flexibility within a process. This flexibility enables the reduction of lot sizes and smoothing of production flow. Participants will learn the required steps and methodology to begin implementing improvements in set up time immediately.
Gain an understanding of quick changeover methodology and how to perform a quick changeover through 8 steps;
Learn the difference between internal and external processes;
How to create a set-up activities observation form;
Use the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) Cycle of systematic process improvement for Quick Changeover Implementation.
