Lesson 3: Coaching & Mentoring

Coaching and mentoring comes in multiple forms and both are critical to the success of strengthening your team and building a solid succession plan for key leaders. This area of leadership can become one of the most rewarding parts of any job when properly understood and executed. This lesson defines and explains how to coach and mentor, how to set appropriate goals and coaching to achieve those goals, how to overcome common obstacles as well as how to develop a coaching plan and provide relevant feedback.

Today’s leader must be versatile and adaptable. This training is designed for department heads, front line supervisors, team leaders and coordinators whether they are new to the position or have been in a leadership role for years. 

Course Delivery
Blended Learning - Online, Self-Paced and Instructor Led

Participants will receive a link to the online portion of the course one week prior to the class date, to complete on their own. This is a 1 hour self-paced lesson. Participants will then join a 90 minute, virtual instructor-led class to review course material and apply knowledge through class activities.

Participants will be awarded a badge for each course they complete. A Leadership Development Certificate will be awarded to those participants completing all 7 courses within the certification.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to strengthen a supervisor’s skills by helping participants overcome many of the challenges they may encounter as a leader. Participants will grow their understanding of responsible leadership and high-performance leadership of teams and explore the basic skills needed to effectively manage a workgroup.

Lesson 4: Team Work & Team Building

Teams are typically comprised of people with diverse ideas and backgrounds and will always outperform individuals when leaders understand how to build these teams and leverage the strengths of all team members. Participants will encourage participants to explore the different aspects of a team, as well as ways that they can become a top-notch team performer. This lesson defines types of teams and the typical roles and responsibilities associated with each, reviews the four stages of team development, discovers problem solving as a team and making the most of team building.

Active Shooter Training: Surviving the Violent Encounter

Active shooter training is essential for preparing individuals and organizations to respond effectively in the event of a violent attack. This training equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to minimize casualties, protect themselves and others, and assist law enforcement during a crisis.

Course Led by: Dewey V. Woody, Jr., Special Agent, FBI JTTF
Dewey Woody is a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security and will be presenting this instructor-led training. Agent Woody is a veteran of the U.S. Army, Bradley County Sheriff's Department, Cleveland Police Department, Chief of Bradley County Fire-Rescue, and deputy director and chief operating officer of TEMA before joining the Homeland Security agency.
