COURSE DESCRIPTION

Essential Computer Skills for Maintenance Technicians equips participants with the digital literacy and computer skills necessary to thrive in modern maintenance environments. The course introduces foundational computer operations, including navigating operating systems, managing files, and using common software applications relevant to maintenance work. Participants will also learn to use digital tools such as Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), spreadsheets, and online resources to enter data, track work orders, and access maintenance documentation. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, efficiency, and confidence when performing computer-based maintenance tasks. By the end of the course, technicians will be better prepared to integrate technology into their daily workflow and support data-driven maintenance practices.

  • Demonstrate essential computer skills, including navigating operating systems, file management, and basic software use.
  • Enter, update, and manage digital maintenance data using common tools such as CMMS platforms and spreadsheets.
  • Locate, read, and interpret digital work orders, manuals, and maintenance history records.
  • Apply best practices for data accuracy, cybersecurity awareness, and proper documentation in a maintenance setting.
  • Use computer tools to organize tasks, communicate with team members, and support preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

This training emphasizes systems management, investigation, repair and troubleshooting. Prior to class, it is recommended that participants complete occupational, mechanical, electrical and PLC hands-on assessments. 

This course is apart of the Mechatronics II Certification program. Interested?

  • Trace and describe the flow of energy in a given mechatronic system;
  • Describe the basic physical properties of mechanical components;
  • Correctly localize, identify and document causes of malfunctions in mechanical components.
